Thursday March 7 review
Mighty Boy, The Hybernators, Gavin, Automan, Motorace
The show moved to the Front Bar this week, due to Motorace playing in the Gershwin Room.
Automan got the night of to a bright start. Good pop/rock songs, great playing. Thanks for filling in at short notice.
Gavin sounded great. Great vocals combined with twin guitars made for pop heaven. Teenage Fan Club comes to mind. Memorable songs, with the new single sounding a certainty for JJJ rotation. Their previous CD also had airplay on JJJ.
The Hybernators have matured. Well the band has but singer Keeno is still demented. (He is a Collingwood supporter after all.) The sound is more stripped back, not as Crampsy as before, more bluesy, leaving a bit of space in the songs. They still rock, and Keeno is a magnetic presence.
Mighty Boy headed up the show, having a few sound problems early on. It doesn’t help the mixer when somebody moves all the graphic settings around. Thanks to Clayton for filling in on short notice.
Their current single “Sucker Punch” is awesome. Great work. The band play what I would call power pop with a bit of edge. They communicate with the audience, have fun on stage and seem very confident. Check ‘em out.
I caught a few songs from Motorace. The sound was so full you tingled from it running through you. Loud, but not excessive. Played a couple of new tracks, which sounded great. The band can certainly play well and sound polished.
