WELL, if there are
any doubts that gavin are on their way to some wide spread recognition
as a new up and coming Aussie band, this week’s show at Inferno in Traralgon
with headliner's Killing Heidi should certainly have questioned those
doubts. And those lucky
enough to see them wouldn't have been disappointed...

FIRST up though were P-76,
who started the set off with a big catchy rock and roll riff track grabbing
the attention of a lot of the gathering Inferno crowd.
This was short lived however as the band then turtled on to some extremely
slow and almost depressing Ballard’s of love and life gone sour. Not even
playing their new triple J single could save them by the end of the set
as the crowd had decided that the beer and conversation were far more
interesting. It would have been a reasonable performance however if the
venue had resembled a seedy singles bar or Benny’s cesspit. This layed
the red carpet down in front of gavin.
If ever there has been a lot
expected of a rock n’ roll band in the past, it could surely not equal
the expectations of gavin that were rising from the bored shitless Killing Heidi hungry crowd....

Well and truly dying to here
some crazy rock-pop numbers, the crowd was treated to an amazing set by
gavin, the four piece South Gippsland youngsters. Opening with a powerful
new ballard I want to
believe and following on with an energetic rendtion of Orange
Slime, Inferno had almost forgotten Killing Heidi were on next.
Not resting for a second but instead blasting into Secret
Things and Jellybeans,
the band had the perfect opportunity to preview the remaining tracks off
their new EP A Tale of Two Cities...
When it seemed that they had reached their peak they completely grabbed
the 1000 plus crowd by the genitals and launched into the perfect power
pop sounds of the title track of the EP and the roof came crashing down.
Never had the Traralgon crowd been so blown away and mesmerised by a seemingly
unknown support band.
Most crowd members feeling
nauseous or in a state of complete shock had to go home forgetting their
precious Killing Heidi because they were sure nothing could beat the memorable
performance they had just witnessed.
